Restorative DentistryFreeing you from pain and restoring oral health.
Dr. Jeffrey Cohen and his staff offer comprehensive restorative dentistry. Restorative dentistry encompasses procedures that correct many conditions that can affect your teeth, gums, jaw, and face. These procedures help return your mouth to a functional state.
When a small to mid-sized filling is needed, Dr. Cohen will recommend a composite filling. Composite resins are then used to not only mimic the tooth’s natural color but provide a strong and durable chewing surface. Composite fillings offer the best aesthetics and disappear into your tooth to seamlessly restore your perfect smile.
Dental Crowns and Bridges
Dental crowns are another example of restorative dentistry. They are a prosthetic covering used to repair and protect a cracked or decayed tooth. Dental crowns can be thought of as a “cap” that encases the damaged tooth to both protect and return your tooth to its natural state.
Dental crowns can last between 10 and 15 years and sometimes much longer. Properly fitted crowns extend the life of your crown and prevent unwanted bacteria and tooth decay. Dr. Cohen is experienced at carefully preparing teeth for a crown, taking perfect impressions, and giving his patients the best fit for long-lasting, beautiful crown.
Dental bridges are used to replace a missing tooth. Dr. Cohen is experienced using fixed dental bridges, including conventional fixed, cantilever, and resin-bonded. Both conventional fixed and cantilever require preparation of the surrounding teeth, while resin-bonded often require less and are a great solution for replacing a front tooth.
Both dental bridges and crowns fall into the category of being both restorative and providing a beautiful cosmetic finish.
Dental Implants, Dentures & Partials
Dental Implants restore missing teeth by using a “new” root to support the “new tooth”. When the root is replaced, Dr. Cohen has a stable and strong foundation off of which to build. You will never have to be self-conscience of a missing tooth again! Implants serve both a restorative and cosmetic function.
Complete and partial dentures can also be used to replace missing teeth. It is very important to replace missing teeth. When ignored, remaining teeth can shift and move, bone will shrink away, chewing can become difficult, and your appearance can suffer. Dr. Cohen will routinely use dental implants to hold full or partial dentures, to prevent them from moving and to destroying the underlying bone.
Root Canal Treatment
When a deep cavity infects the nerve of the tooth, a root canal is needed. Narrow channels within the tooth are hallowed out and cleaned, and then the root is filled. This allows Dr. Cohen to save your tooth and stop your pain. While it may seem scary, root canals are far better than having to have your tooth extracted!
Some signs of an infection are tooth pain, tooth discoloration, irritation and swelling of the gum tissue, and signs of the infection found through dental x-rays.
Tooth extractions are the complete removal of a tooth when other restorative measures have not worked. When a tooth has been broken or damaged, Dr. Cohen will first use other restorative measures like fillings and crowns to repair the problem tooth. In the rare case that there is too much damage to repair, the tooth will need to be extracted.
Some other reasons for extractions can be baby teeth that don’t fall out at the proper time or when a tooth blocks another tooth from coming in.
Stop Snoring and Sleep Apnea Treatment
Zzzzz…. SNNGHHHH!!! Snoring lessens the quality of your sleep and your partners. When your airway is obstructed during sleep, vibrations can be caused and create the sound of snoring. This can be an indication of a more serious condition called sleep apnea. Through the use of oral appliances, much like a mouth guard, Dr. Cohen can work to keep your airway open and relieve snoring and treat sleep apnea, giving you and your loved one a better night of rest.
